The Chinese Ancient Books Joint Catalog and Evidence-Based Platform is an experimental project under the Shanghai Library Digital Humanities Platform. Currently, it catalogs the collections of over 1,400 institutions. Among these, the ancient book collections of the Shanghai Library, the rare Chinese book collections of the East Asian Library at the University of California, Berkeley, the rare Chinese book collections of the Harvard-Yenching Library, and the ancient Chinese book collections of the University of Macau Library are accessible online with partial scanned full-text images. Additionally, it integrates historically significant catalogs including officially compiled catalogs, historical gazetteer catalogs, private library catalogs, personal catalogs, and edition catalogs. These are supplemented with standardized metadata such as personal names, place names, seals, taboo characters, and engravers. The platform will integrate forthcoming content analysis statistics, spatio-temporal and social relationship analysis tools, and visualization capabilities. This project aims to leverage distributed cloud platform technology and semantic association techniques to enable joint querying and standardized control of ancient texts preserved across libraries. It provides scholars with evidence-based editions and tools for tracing provenance. We hope more libraries will join hands in the future to benefit the scholarly community and future generations.
